Do the little acts of kindness matter?
Do the little acts of kindness matter? This question comes in my mind
whenever I see people doing the little random acts of kindness and posting
their videos or making posts on social media. Hmm but why does this question come
in mind. Actually, people do little acts like helping someone by picking their
luggage, giving food to poor, loving and helping animals, giving clothes to
poor and homeless etc. These acts I've seen people doing in their day to day
life here in India and they don't even say about it because it’s our culture to
help each other. From the birth, parents teach kids to donate, help and be
kind. But, do the little acts of kindness matter? Hmm, these days, people are
forgetting the kindness and to remind them and for helping unkind people to be
kind. I think the little acts of kindness are very important and help them get
the feeling which kindness gives. I want to tell you about a simple story having
random acts of kindness which changed a person.
I’ve always been a silent person who talks less with people. I was working in
a government organization in 2015 when I had to work on a project in which I
had to go to the remote places all around Delhi. For this project, most of the time
I had to go with my boss’s driver named Mandal. When I first saw him, I was
thinking why he is working as a driver in a very old age. I got to know from many
people and specially from my boss’s secretary that he talks to people very rudely
and don’t speak in a good manner. When I heard this, I thought if he had some
bad time so that he had to work in old age and he needed love and care a lot. In
the starting, when I went to the remote places with Mandal Uncle, I speak less
and try to avoid making mistakes so that he doesn’t shout at me or don’t talk to
me rudely. I was afraid of him, seriously. Then I started to greet him whenever
I met him. He started replying and I tried to always give him a smile. Many times,
we had bad times when we had to travel from one place to another and specially
during lunch time. At a very old age, he had to continuously drive the car and
it made him frustrate. I always tried to sit in the front seat of the car with
him and to comfort him and to give him the company, I tried to speak about the
work frustratingly so that he got to know that there is too much work pressure
on me too and I’m also frustrated. One day, I had to work till evening and I didn’t
had lunch, Mandal uncle offered me his lunch. He asked me that I’m also hungry
and me made me feel so good. His offer filled my stomach. He was an old man and
had to work physically more so I thanked him and refused. One day, when I was
sitting on my seat in my office, Mandal uncle came with a smile and asked me “How
are you?”. It almost gave me tears inside and when he left then everyone asked
me what happened to him and how he smiled at me and how this change had
happened that he talked to me very politely. Everyone saw him smiling first
time and even my boss was watching him smiling for the first time. Whenever he
come to inside the office, he used to come to my seat and talk to me and whenever
I met him, I always greet him and ask for his health. Nobody could believe that
he could even smile. With just the little acts of kindness to greet him and to
care for him, I changed the person. I feel too good whenever I think about his
great smile.
There are lot of stories there with random small acts of kindness where the
other person or living being receiving is fulfilled with happiness. A simple act
of kindness can create the endless ripples of happiness in someone’s heart. I
believe that with the little acts of kindness we not only enhance our
personality but can also help make our environment nearby happy and kind.
